One of the most remarkable stories from the 2020 Olympic games was that of Dutch long-distance runner Sifan Hassan. During the 1,500 metre heats, she came crashing to the ground after she was tripped by another fallen athlete at the start of the final lap. Hassan picked herself up, beat all eleven athletes who were ahead to win the heat en route to winning a bronze medal.
Many times, setbacks come to prevent us from reaching our destinations. These setbacks may be sickness, persecution because of our faith or even bankruptcy. Nonetheless, God does not want us to drawback, but rather to weather the storm and make it to the end.
Here are three things to do to endure and press on to the end:
Be grounded in the Word.
“These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so.” – Acts 17:11
Just as the believers of Berea were diligent in the search and study of the Word of God, when we seek to know the Word for ourselves, even though many will come to lead us astray we will not waiver and be removed from the faith.
2. Pray that you will overcome temptations.
“The temptations in your life are no different from what others experience. And God is faithful. He will not allow the temptation to be more than you can stand. When you are tempted, he will show you a way out so that you can endure.” – 1 Corinthians 10:13 (NLT)
Temptations will surely come our way, but the faithful God promises to make a way out. As believers, we must stand in prayer on that promise to be strengthened to overcome temptations that come our way to derail us from the faith.
3. Be constantly filled with the Spirit.
“…And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and spoke the word of God boldly.” – Act 4:31 (NIV)
Peter and John were able to continue ministry in boldness after they were threatened by Jewish leaders because they were filled again by the Spirit. As a vehicle needs constant refilling of fuel to make its long journey, we must also ask to be constantly filled with the Spirit to make it to the end.
Sons of God, the journey of life will never be without challenges but you must prepare yourself to endure to the end. Be rooted in God’s word, watch and pray to overcome temptation and be filled with the Spirit always.
PRAYER:
Heavenly Father, strengthen me by Your Spirit that I may overcome trials, persecutions and sufferings and endure to the end, in the name of Jesus.
Amen!
