Jesus The Author of Our Deliverance Pt.2

Our Flesh Also Hates Us.

When we become born again, we receive a new nature which strives to be like Christ, and we have an old, dead nature, called our flesh, which seeks to drag us back into our old way of living. You can read more about the old nature versus the new in my book, (Journey To Maturity “Spirit, Soul & Body.”) on www.drstevembua.com

The old nature hates our new way of life and hates our new identity in Christ. The flesh is also an enemy. Jesus came to deliver us from the hand, or rule of our enemies. He came to deliver us from sin, and He came to deliver us from Satan, the world, and our flesh. In the words of the apostle to the Galatians he writes: “Grace be to you and peace from God the Father, and from our Lord Jesus Christ,

Who gave himself for our sins, that he might deliver us from this present evil world, according to the will of God and our Father:...” Galatians 1:3-4 Jesus came to deliver us from this present evil world and all that it represents.

Last week we read from Galatians 5:16-17 where Paul says, “This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh. For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other: so that ye cannot do the things that ye would.”

And in 1 John 3:8, we are told why Jesus came. He came to destroy the works of the devil.

Christmas is not just about the story of the birth of the virgin Birth of Jesus but also about what He came to do. Sometimes we celebrate the coming, but we forget the purpose of His coming. I am excited that Jesus came but more about the purpose of His coming.

Here are some reasons we find in our text as to why Jesus came:

1. Jesus came to redeem us

2. Jesus is the horn of our salvation – He gives us power, strength and authority over our enemies

3. Jesus came to deliver us from our enemies and from the hand of all those who hate us in this world including satan, sin, death and hell

4. Jesus came to establish the Father’s covenant with us, His children

5. So, that we might serve God without fear, in holiness and righteousness all the days of our lives

PRAYER

Thank you Father for sending Jesus to deliver me from all my enemies

From evil, from the flesh and the dominion of Satan

I can now serve You without fear, in holiness and righteousness all the days of my life

In Jesus name.

Amen!
