Jehoshaphat was in the valley of decision facing great external threat from enemies. Not just one enemy, but an alliance was coming against him producing insurmountable odds for victory. His first step was to humble himself in the midst of this great trial. Three elements of spiritual discipline will put God’s covenant people in a right position for victory: praise, prayer and fasting.
With these spiritual dynamics working, prophecy and revelation was released to give them direction so that in that valley Jehoshaphat could emerge victorious. Never try to fight God’s battle. Their battle was one of praise and worship. God’s battle was to dismantle and remove the enemy by dispatching the Hosts of Heaven.
And when he had consulted with the people, he appointed singers unto the Lord, and that should praise the beauty of holiness, as they went out before the army, and to say, Praise the Lord; for his mercy endureth for ever. And when they began to sing and to praise, the Lord set ambushments against the children of Ammon, Moab, and mount Seir, which were come against Judah; and they were smitten. 2 Chronicles 20:21-22
Regardless of the battle you are facing, take your stand on the finished work of Christ and begin to praise the Lord for victory. Declare, I am more than a conqueror through Christ. I am an overcomer, for Greater is He that is in me than he that is in the world. Thanks be to God who gives me the victory through my Lord Jesus Christ. (1 Corinthians 15:57)
As far as the enemies of our lives, family and careers are concerned we don't have to try and defeat them in our own strength, the battle belongs to the Lord. Jesus defeated them already two thousand years ago. And in Matthew 28:18 Jesus said, “All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth.”
Right now, you can stand and begin to declare victory in your circumstance like Jehoshaphat’s people saying: “Praise the Lord; for his mercy endureth for ever.”
