RESISTING THE TEMPTATION TO SIN

God told Cain that sin was at his door desiring to have him; However, he could do well to take mastery over it. This means that it is incumbent on us to always rule over the desires and temptations of sin.

The Word of God also tells us that God will not allow any temptation that is beyond our ability to overcome it to come to us; not only that, but He will also make a way of escape for us. This implies that there is no sin we cannot have mastery over.

Here are three reasons why we must take authority over sins and temptation:

  1. In order to inherit the kingdom of God.

Galatians 5:21(NKJV) says, “envy, murders, drunkenness, revelries, and the like; of which I tell you beforehand, just as I also told you in time past, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.”

We cannot inherit God’s kingdom when we are filled with unrighteous living and all kinds of uncleanness. Strive to desist from all kinds of evil as you take mastery over sin in order to inherit God’s kingdom.

  1. To avoid the chance of obeying its evil desires.

Romans 6:12 (NIV) says, “Therefore do not let sin reign in your mortal body so that you obey its evil desires.”

Evil desires which are unchecked grow in us to produce sin. We have to be sharp to identify and take immediate authority over evil thoughts and desires that creep up in us so that we do not accommodate them longer than we should, thereby reducing the chances of us yielding to them.

  1. God wants us to be perfect.

Matthew 5:48 says, “Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect.”

We can be perfect like our heavenly Father through taking mastery over sin. Jesus went through temptation without sinning; hence, He is able to help us also until we perfect our mastery over sin.

Dear friend, there is sufficient grace in the Lord Jesus to overcome and be permanently free from any sin that easily besets you. Take advantage of His grace and take mastery over sin.

PRAYER:

Heavenly Father, I refuse to let sin have dominion over me, so I break its power in my life by the power of the Holy Spirit, in Jesus’ name. Amen.
