Let’s break it down. What does it mean to stand firm?
Standing Firm means, refusing to change a decision or position. It means that you’re not moved, and you couldn’t be bothered by what’s happening around you.
Let’s take a look at a tree.
This tree is standing firm. The wind will blow, the rain will fall, and storms will come; but that tree will remain standing firm. Why? Because it’s rooted and grounded in the soil. It has no reason to worry that the wind will knock it down, it has no reason to be afraid because it’s standing firm in the ground. People can throw rocks at it but it will remain standing securely in the soil.
That’s what standing firm means.
This tree is also standing:
But the question is, is it standing firm? What will happen when a storm comes? Will the tree be able to withstand wind alone? No, it won’t. It will be blown away immediately because it is not rooted in the ground. If the tree could talk, it would probably say “I’m doing just fine above the ground..” and it would tell the other tree “you don’t need to be underground, it’s not that serious.” Little does it know a storm is around the corner, the wind is about to blow and it will soon be carried away.
What does the second tree need to do for it to become like the first one, it needs to be planted deep in the soil, (rooted and grounded) so that even before the storm comes, it’s already standing firm and strong. It needs to be ready for any weather, at all times, so that it doesn’t get caught off guard.
These trees illustrate our lives as believers. We should root ourselves in the word of God that way when storms of life come our way we are ready and able to stand firm! When the enemy throws things in our direction to try and cause us to fall, we are able to stand firm in the word.
to be continued..
PRAYER:
"Father God, I am determined to stand firm in my faith. I am determined to root myself in the word of God. When the storms of life come my way, and when the enemy throws things in my direction, I will not be caught unaware. I root myself in the word today so that I can use the words of God to fight back against the devil, and against situations I'm facing in my life.
In Jesus' name, Amen.
