When it comes to receiving the Holy Spirit, the first thing you want to know is who is the Holy Spirit and what exactly is this gift? The Bible tells us that we shall receive power after the Holy Spirit comes upon us. The Bible also tells us that we are “sealed” with the Holy Spirit after we believe. (Ephesians 1:13)
So, if we have already received the Holy Spirit at the moment of our salvation with the Lord, what then is this “second” baptism of the Holy Spirit that charismatic believers talk about?
To fully understand the baptism of the Holy Spirit – you have to first of all know what the difference is between your spirit, soul, and body. The Bible tells us that we have three distinct parts to our being – Man is a spirit; he has a soul, and he lives in a body. Here is the verse specifically telling us this:
“I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ..” (1 Thessalonians 5:23)
Paul prayed this prayer for the believers in Thessalonica to discover the untapped supernatural power residing in their spirits.
