After the Lord declares to Abraham in Genesis 12:2 “I will make you a blessing” The Lord doesn’t stop there, He continues in (V. 3) “And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee: and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed.”
It is very important to note that there is a family blessing.
It is also important to notice the reason for the family blessing - Abraham was coming out of his country, and from his kindred, and from his father's house, to a land that God would shew him. That is the basic reason for the blessing of God on any family.
For Emphasis again the basic cause of the blessing is coming out from your kindred, from your father’s house to a place God will show you.
That's the basis on which God said to Abraham “in thee shall all the families of the earth be blessed. If you look on a little further in Genesis chapter 28 you find how God promised Jacob:
“And thy seed shall be as the dust of the earth, and thou shalt spread abroad to the west, and to the east, and to the north, and to the south: and in thee and in thy seed shall all the families of the earth be blessed.” (Genesis 28:14)
The family blessing is in Abraham. But the strange thing is we have not discovered the basis for the family blessing! We often think God’s blessing on the family is automatic simply because we are entitled to the blessing! But God was calling Abraham to come out of following his own understanding and instead trust the life God had for him. It was because of Abraham’s obedience that he received the strength to become a blessing to all the families of the earth.
PRAYER: Father in heaven, today I declare I am blessed to be a blessing. And My family is blessed in Abraham. I am a blessing to my church family, my immediate family and the world at large in the name of Jesus.
As I embrace “the family blessing,” I see my seed possessing the North, the South, the East and the West by the day in Jesus name.
