YOU HAVE TO LOVE LIFE

This passage of scripture in 1 Peter 3 is a teaching on marriage similar to Paul’s teaching in Ephesians 5:22-24. It speaks of the behavior of wives and husbands, their general conduct in the marriage and how a wife is to submit to her husband. And right after that the Apostle Peter gives a general warning about our choice to life.

“For he that will love life, and see good days, let him refrain his tongue from evil, and his lips that they speak no guile.”

We have to love life and not death. Of course, we cannot control other people’s choices. But God instructed the Israelites in Deuteronomy 30:19 to choose life. For a person to choose something, you have to love it first. For a man to marry a woman he has to love her. In the same manner also, if a person loves life that’s all he will talk about all day long. If you love what you do, that’s all you want to talk about all the time.

The Lord is speaking through Peter and saying, to live long and see many good days, we have to love life and refrain our tongue from speaking the opposite of life - which is death.

What does it mean to refrain one’s tongue? To refrain your tongue simply means to hold back your tongue from speaking death. If you should say anything while under pressure, let your tongue only speak life. What if things don’t go your way, can you refrain your tongue and speak life instead of the opposite? When you are boiling over with anger, can you hold back your tongue from speaking death and speak life instead? When you feel cheated or defrauded, can you speak life and say, I have another opportunity to succeed or will you curse yourself to death? If we love our life, regardless of what we go through, we will say, “I love my life too much to waste any time on this,” God will give me another opportunity to succeed.

Speak life over yourself. Speak life over your marriage and your children. Speak life over your finances, your job and your business. The Lord said: “choose life that you and your seed may live. Whatever you choose, death or life, you are choosing for both you and your children. So, choose wisely.

PRAYER: I choose Life!

Heavenly Father, I thank you for life, I appreciate and cherish my life

Today I declare that my life is a gift from God and not my own, therefore no man can take it away from me nor out of the hand of Jesus.

No sickness, no death, no fear, no devil or poverty has power to take me out of the mighty hand of Jesus.

I declare, my life is sacred to God, I hear His voice; and as I hear and follow the voice of my Father, I shall live a good long life in Jesus name.

According to Mark 11:23, I choose life,

I shall live!
